You think computers don’t contribute to our carbon footprint? Well, they do and here’s how much the people at LocalCooling.com estimate the numbers to be:

“More than 30 billion kilowatt-hours of energy is wasted because many of us simply forget to shut down our computers when we’re not using them”

So although this is just another power manager for your computer, it shows you an estimate of how much energy you are saving, translated into trees, gallons of oil and watts.

Personally I can’t think of disposing anything on the floor. Trash, garbage, rubbish and alike belong in their place. So does chewing gum! And so appeared the Envyrobubble.

Brainchild of Loredana Oliveti and Ornella DeCola, two moms that love their shoes, the Envyrobubble comes forth as a solution to a cleaner sidewalk. And when I say cleaner, I mean anything less than the absurd amount already present on today’s Toronto sidewalks.

A 2004 litter audit in Toronto, Canada, revealed that a 350 m2 stretch of sidewalk had as many as 2,000 chewing gum stains.

For those that have never really noticed the amount of black spots on the sidewalks or the streets, I’d suggest you take a quick stroll to the nearest supermarket and keep your eyes on the ground! Try to count them. Good luck!

I find this to be a great idea and should pickup quickly in all large cities around the globe. I suggest gum drop-offs at all cinemas, theatres, shopping malls and even schools.

And there’s even a great idea to make the color hot pink, the official color for gum recycling. Taking after the colors for glass, plastic and paper. Neat-o!

(Hat tip: blogTO)

Like everybody and their friends, I also tried to watch the Oscars last night, but due to the time difference I ended up hitting the sack and would catch the highlights today.

While looking for all the Oscar goodness, I happened to come across a blog that is something of a mix between paparazzi and greenpeace, called ecorazzi. It shows you how the rich and famous try (or not) to do their part at saving the planet. Don’t expect to find anything about Britney Spears or Ana Nicole Smith over there…

OK, so I’ve seen a lot of green blogs and community websites, but this one presented me to a cool new niche, the stylish-paparazzi-eco-friendly-gossip-blogs! And I love them!

It brings a nice fresh look on the whole deal and makes the eco-friendly crowd look hip and cool. You can get a bit of everything ranging from life style of the green and fabulous to eco-gossip at it’s best.

Some blogs are more focused and others have a widespread array of related subjects to read about.
