Mendeley gets a face lift

Earlier today, the Mendeley website was not available for a few minutes while it was “updating…”. Shortly after, the site reopened with a complete new look. A very light and bright site with more information than the previous version.

Being part of the Mendeley team, I knew that a redesign was underway but had not had the opportunity to see the finished “product”.

The logo has changed slightly, it’s jumped out of the square and now is a more horizontal logo, giving more visibility to the name.

The new version has a nice section called How it works that shows some of the key features in Mendeley and basically how to use them.

Although I’m obviously biased, I must say I like the new look. What do you think about the redesign?

What do you say about a software that uses a lot of CPU, cannot "understand" the PDFs you're throwing at it and crashes randomly?

CPU - not a concern for me (and my mostly idle 4 cores), even if mendeley uses neural networks to decode author names from the raster PDFs it's fine as long as I do not have to type them in. The other points are IMHO only semi-valid it's an imperfect tool in a very imperfect world - I saw PDFs crashing adobe. And yes unfair, aggressive and insulting comments should be censored or better self-censored.

Yes, I also have a quad core machine and it hangs for a while processing. I tried three or four times and it failed to recognize the information in at least 50% of the PDFs. It crashes randomly, not only for me, and sometimes has to be killed. Regarding the unfair, aggressive and insulting comments, it looks like you're tyring to defend Mendeley with too much passion, I wonder why. Send me your email address and I will forward you their email "censoring" my comments.

currently I have two apps running: FF (crashes randomly), Pida (crashes randomly). I don't know how to fix them so I live with it. I'd also cope with a crashing mendelay if I'd use it. That's my reality, sorry for being so forgiving.

Too bad all these comments are not about the redesigned site. Except for Bill's link to another discussion thread about the redesign :)
