Keeping up with the Open Access on-goings, I happened to come across some videos (and photos) from the Berlin 5 Open Access conference that took place in Padova, Italy in September. I was skimming through the presenters names, and noticed a name that struck me as familiar.

Gago…? Uhm… could it be Mr Mariano Gago? The Portuguese Minister of Science and Technology?

Guess what, it was and here’s the video (about 7 minutes long) where Minister Gago speaks about the importance of Open Access in scientific research and other aspects related.

And while I’m at it, I must say that I’m rather impressed by the quality of his spoken English.

I for one am proud that this is a matter being kept in focus by the Portuguese Government. I’d like to read a bit more about the Minister’s initiatives regarding OA here in Portugal. Anyone from my Portuguese readership want to point me in the right direction?
