DNA Archive - Now you can store your DNA at home!
Have you ever wanted to keep a sample of your DNA, just in case? Well, the brilliant folks at DNAdirect have just come out with the DNA Archive, a home storage kit for DNA.
Some of the questions that are probably coming to mind at this moment are:
- What would I want to store my DNA at home?
- If I did store this, how long would this last without expiring?
- What can I do with my DNA after I’ve got it all nicely stored?
The answers to these questions and many others are all available at the DNAdirect website. (I’d assume that if you have other questions they’d be quickly answered via email or even over the phone.)
Just in case you’re a little lazy (like me), the answers to the three questions above could be quickly answered as:
- It’s cheaper than storing it at a DNA bank and it’s private

Thanks for sharing this with your readers, Rick! One clarification, the DNA is preserved for at least 11 years, probably longer. The Biomatrica technology has only been available that long but it keeps on ticking.
Hi Rick, thanks for posting about this! I’d like to think that science geekdom is swiftly moving from “extremely nerdy” into hipster cool. Of course, I’m a little biased…. :-)
