Nivea DNAgeBiotech is big. We see it everyday. Any new product that wants to look cool, hi-tech or even futuristic will have the bio suffix stuck in the brand name somehow. If that doesn’t work, just relate it to DNA and you’ve got an instant winner!

Maybe it’s a new facial cream packed with DNA goodness or a fantastic concept car that needs a cool organic name, the inclusion of biotech and genetic references in products now is a must to make the sell. It makes products look modern, smart and above all scientifically tested & approved.

Ok ok, although there is a lot of marketing agencies taking advantage of the scientific field, I just loved to see this ad in a scientific mag publicizing a piece of lab equipment (a centrifuge, nonetheless). What’s so cool about it? The placement of the uber cool iPod and mega-popular cellphone (Razr?!), so as to make the lab technician look that much cooler!

Biotech ad with ipod

If a hip lab technician that has an iPod and a nifty cellphone bought this centrifuge, I have to purchase one too! Otherwise I’ll just look so uncool. Right?
