PLoS ONE hits 500!
I’ve been growing more and more a fan of PLoS, especially of PLoS ONE. So it’s with good eyes I see that PLoS ONE has reached the 500 mark.
The 500th article just happens to be a buzz word packed paper. It regards the changing climate and it’s influence on the spreading of TBE, or lack of it, in the Baltic region.
Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) cases have increased sharply in Eastern Europe since 1970, a period over which climate has also changed. This study shows that while the timing and level of climate warming could promote transmission of TBE virus, they cannot explain its spatio-temporal heterogeneity. Rather, a variety of factors, many associated with the end of Soviet rule, have acted synergistically to increase TBE prevalence. (read the full article)
This mark is a good sign of acceptance by the scientific community, now let’s hope that growth keeps strong and the good papers keep rolling in.
