It takes a long time…
The steps involved in finishing my degree are just exhausting. After going through 5 long years of 10 to 12 subjects a year (ranging from numerical analysis to immunology to bioprocess engineering), it is required we perform a production research project that involves basically everything from conception of the product to the industrial process layout, to the economics and finances and then that has to be presented in a written format and also a computerized medium, namely using SuperPro Designer.
This takes about a year to get done in a group of about 4 or 5 students.
And after all that, we still have a 6 month internship where we have to research something new in the field of biotechnology like a new PCR technique or the best medium for bacterial growth of a specific species. This is a solo trip, so the grade is all up to you…
I’ll be soon completing my product research project and am hoping to find a good spot to do my internship. I’ve been looking around, but have not yet received any answers to my emails. Probably not interested, I guess. But I’ll keep trying.
She just happened to finish her degree (with a huge bang!) and I couldn’t be more proud of her. It’s amazing to see how far one can go with a little effort. I’m hoping to catch up soon enough so we can keep to our plan (yes, we have a plan :P ).
